The Literary Dinner Party Tag

Dammit - I'm a bit late with the blog post this week!
I'm kind of loosening up with my schedule a bit, since everything in my life is kind of getting busy again and I need to do a lot of things before I can get to blogging and writing. So I'm sorry for the weird times of posting!
Anyway, let's forget about that and get to today's blog post, because that's what we're here for, aren't we? 
Let's get into the Literary Dinner Party Tag (because I'm in a food-mood, hehe)

 One character who can cook/ likes to cook

Uhh... Well I do hope for all the characters that they can cook, especially with everything they can find, because otherwise I'm pretty curious about how they survived without being able to cook or eat properly! I know I would die. Although I can't cook.

But a character who can cook or likes to cook...

Benfro, our good ol' dragon, (The Ballad of Sir Benfro-series) who's mum was a medic of sorts? I mean he can make medicine, with all that he can find, so surely he can cook, right?

I mean he can breathe fire and stuff.

One character who has the money to fund the party

Uhm, every prince or princess from any book, I suppose? So let's change the question into a character who has the money to fund a party ánd can throw a good party.

...

Puck from the Iron Fey. Okay, okay - he probably doesn't have the money. But we all know that he'll probably just steal it from King Oberon and will make sure he and Titania are gone from Arcadia so he can throw a party for all the fae, where all get drunk and high and pass out and then Oberon gets back from his trip from god knows where - already anxious because it was Puck who sent him there - and sees fae from his court and from other courts - even iron fae! - and his head turns red and then he finds Puck passed out, half naked, laying over a few other people and he slaps him in the face and Puck says these nasty things and he slaps him again-

Erhem. He'll probably get banned for eternity.

One character who might cause a scene

Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.

Don't get me wrong - I love Ron and all the Weasleys, but he's the kind of person who would believe when you say that the red punch he's drinking is actually gnomeblood.

Or that the ice cream will turn freeze him from the inside.

Or that his favorite ice cream will actually freeze him to death someday.

That's Ron Weasley in a nutshell.

One character who is funny/amusing

Patrick from the Perks of being a Wallflower, helloooooo!?!?

He's got it all; he's gay, he's sensitive, he's girly, he's a nice goofy smile, he's loud, he's shameless, he's a dramaqueen and incredibly, stupidly, uniquely kind!

Like Puck, he'll probably get us all drunk and high and he'll probably start dancing on the table or try to be extremely philosophical when he's actually is talking about The Rocky Horror Picture Show or soemthing like that.

Ahh - he'd be fun at a party.

Well, if I liked parties :$

One character who's super social/popular

Alaska from Looking for Alaska. Maybe 'popular' isn't the exactly right word here, but she's definitely worshipped in her group of friends. She's funny, she's kind, she's cool, she's brave and she's goodlooking.

That's popular, right?

One villian

Dorothy from Dorothy Must Die, because she's probably the only villian I know that is really bad but also a partyqueen. I mean, she lives in Oz in a nice castles with probably the most colourful parties ever. People force a smile, true, but the place looks amazing.

At least she doesn't kill the mood. Well, that is, unless you make her angry...

One couple - doesn't have to be romantic

Viola and Todd, obviously. They are so cute and sweet and kind and they'll probably awkwardly hold hands and get each other drinks and stuff. They'll hide in a corner of the room and maybe attempt to dance for a bit.

Oooh - so cute :$

And they seriously need a break from all those aliens and all the chaos over at their planet!

One hero/heroine

Aren't all our characters heroes of sorts? 

But I think that the most heroic person I've read about, has got to be Todd Hewitt. 

I mean, he basically saved a whole planet on his own.

Starting out with just a knife and a dog. And a town of men chasing behind him.

And a girl who barely spoke to him in the beginning.

That's hero material, I tell you.

One underappreciated character

Well, I'm not quite sure what characters are underappreciated, but I think Severus Snape is one.

I mean, he's definitely gloomy and big ass towards Harry, but he's not truely bad.

Just a bit grumpy.

But extremely loyal.

"Always."

He deserves some partylove <3

One character of your own choosing

The alien (I don't think he has a name other than Professor Andrew Martin) from The Humans, yaaayyy!

I mean he'll probably look at all of us being weird; Patrick dancing at the table, Puck going crazy as well, Severus hiding in a corner in a dark cloak while sipping his drink and quickly scanning the room for annoying little brats, Todd and Viola being all awkwardly cute. He'll probably walk up behind everybody and tap them on the shoulder, asking what their doing and if it's okay if he tried to.

Patrick and Puck will probably get him high.

Poor Andrew. Maybe I'm going to have to protect you at that party.

Opposite Books Tag!

Yup - it's time for another tag post today!
So I came across this tag on a blog called DreamlandBookblog, which - can I just say - is just a beautiful blog, and it looked really fun to do!

First book in your collection/Last book you bought

O, what a surprise! It's the Iron King that is the first book on my shelf - didn't see that one coming! ;)

This is the last book I've bought! I've already started reading it and - even though I'm still at the introduction - I'm quite loving it!

A cheap book/ an expensive book

The cheapest books on my shelf cost literally nothing. No joke.

These are the so-called book gifts you get from the stores around the bookweeks - we have several bookweeks here in the Netherlands - YASS!

...But I never read the book gifts... hehe

O, man - I just remembered how my heart banged in my chest when I was about to buy this book. Normally I don't buy books that are like 20 euro's or so, so this was quuuuiiiiittteee scary for me.

A book with a male protagonist/A book with a female one

It has been ages since I've read this book, Luka and the Fire of Life.

It's basically about a boy who travels through the World of Magic to save his father who has fallen in a deep and deadly slumber. To save his father he needs to steal the Fire of Life.

Ooh - I definitely need to re-read this one!

O, and Luka is a boy, yes.

Well, we all know this one!

A book you read quickly/A book that took ages to finish

I think it took like a day or so to finish this book?

I can't really remember, but I know it felt like just a second had flown by when I finished after mindblowing, heartbreaking and fascinating ending.

Wow.

I think it's been a month or two since I started this book.

And I'm still not done.

IT'S JUST A VERY INTIMIDATING BOOK FOR SOME REASON, OKAY?

Jeez.

Pretty cover/Ugly cover

Look at this one - it's sooo preeetttyyyy.

It's so blue.

And white-ish.

And green-ish.

And heavenly.

Hihi.

Uhm. Well.

I want to say BLEGH, UGH, IIIEEUUUWWW, but that's just too mean.

So I'll stick to not so pretty.

A national book/An international book

Carry Slee's books were quite hype quite a while back.

Everybody in the country knows about her and her books and I, myself, did enjoy them too. Back then.

Not anymore.

YAAAYYYYY - PATRICK NESS! WOOHOO!

I actually chosen almost any book on my shelf, but I decided to go for this one, because it Patrick Ness.

I still have to read this one, though.

A thin book/A thick book

My self written book is literally the thinnest book on my shelf.

That's what you get when you're o-so excited to publish a book, but forget the whole writing a book part and instead publish a short story, haha.

I'm proud of myself, nonetheless.

I've never read this book.

This was one of my impulse-buys - it looked nice so I bought it.

Tried to read it and lost interest.

Fiction/Non-fiction

Another Patrick Ness, because I can.

YAAAAYYYY - CHAOS WALKING! WOOHOO!

"The Art of the Samurai"...

Another book my dad gave to me - it's full of wisdom of samurai-wielders (or do you just call them samurai's?).

I think it's comparable to "The Art of War", but either way it sounds fun!

And the inside is sooo pretty (Sorry I have no picture of it. And I'm too lazy to make one now.)

Very (way too) romantic/Action-packed

Hey, We Were Liars!

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of romantic books.

But I did enjoy this one, so it wasn't way too romantic.

I think these were quite action-packed.

I mean, they are set in Ancient Rome. And those Romans loved to fight.

So I think these books contain tons of fighting scenes.

But then, it has been ages since I've read the first two...

A book that made you happy/A book that horrified you

AUGGIEEEEEE!!!

I get happy tears in my eyes when I think about Auggie and his story - this was sooo moving!

RECOMMENDED, RECOMMENDED, RECOMMENDED!

Actually I had to chose a book that made cry for this part of the tag, but since I couldn't think of one, I chose a book that horrified me instead.

I was really pumped to read this book, but then I got to the crazy, really sexual, scenes and I was like: YEAH NOPE!

Although I've read a book that was even more sexual and even creepier...

Brrrr - NEVER AGAIN.

But perhaps I'll read this one in the future...

Series I won't finish

That great series that EVERYBODY reads, a new series by your favorite author, a series you just want to try out; you tried. And you failed. You just didn't like it.

In fact, you may have HATED it or no, was DISGUSTED by it. Or you found it too cliché or it just didn't fit in your alley. 

Or you read a spoiler of the series and it made you so angry, because the chick already broke up with a prince and was going to break up with the prince's BFF too now and you just couldn't handle the fact that she was going to have more boyfriends in the future and you just quit. (I'm probably, kind of, not at all, but totally, innocently talking about Throne of Glass...)

ANYWAY - here are the book series I probably won't finish:

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

I'll start right off the bat with this extremely hyped series, just to get it over with: Throne of Glass. 
If you follow me for a while, you know that I adored the first book. I thought Celaena was bae and so super badass and I loved her, till I read the second book. And I looked up Throne of Glass on Instagram. 
So I found this spoiler, which I'm obviously not going to share because I don't want to ruin it for the rest of you all, while I was reading the second book and it just pissed me off. It had to do with her current relationship and I wasn't really over how she just broke up with Dorian and I just couldn't do it anymore. Nope, just couldn't. NOPEEEEEE.
In the second book I also could see Dorian struggling with the break-up AND I FELT SO SAD FOR HIM! LIKE, WHY? WHY, CELAENA? WHY DID YOU BREAK UP WITH HIM? WHYYYY?
DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO HIM? DO YOU SEE????
(...) 
I also found out that she was going to have a few more lovers (whoops, still gave you a spoiler, hehe. SORRY) and I was like: NOPE - THAT'S IT. GOODBYE, CELAENA.
So I won't finish these series. :$

2. Legend by Marie Lu
Well, Legend is - luckily for me - a less dramatic story: I just find it a bit too cliché.
I mean, I do enjoy reading dystopian themed novels, but the way the story progressed, the type of characters, the way the world was ruled - too much of the same old, same old. But I do think that I don't want to finish it mainly because I've been reading YA, sci-fi and fantasy for a while now, so a book like this one just won't give me the same feelings as the others. It doesn't out in the crowd.
So I think that when you're new to sci-fi or YA, it would be way more fun to read than when you're already into it for a few years.

3. The Blood of Eden series by Julie Kagawa
Ahh - the one and only Julie Kagawa! The author that made me love fantasy and YA - I love you!(...)
But not this series...
Now, I haven't read many vampire-books, but I've watched a lot of movies about them, like Twilight. And this one was just kind of, sort of, totally like them.
But then, again, it would've been fun to read if I hadn't read or seen much of vampire themed books or movies.
It just has the same vampire-clichés in it that every vampire-movie/-book has and well, it just doesn't turn me on - it doesn't give me the I-NEED-TO-READ-MORE-feels anymore.
The Blood of Eden series are like an introduction to vampires, for me. The same for the Iron Fey series - an introduction to fantasy. But once you've been introduced to them, reading series like these won't turn you on anymore.

4. The Eagle of the Ninth series by Rosemary Sutcliff
I just wanted to try something new, so I thought why not read a book based on Ancient Rome. Well, I shouldn't have thought that.
It just utterly booorrrreeddddd me. I read the first two installments and I had to force myself to finish them. What I can remember of my time reading them, because it's been a looooonnnggg while since, was that I couldn't get the story really or the connection between the first and the second book and it was incredibly boring and intimidating to read. Now these books aren't that thick, but around that time I wasn't really into English reading and well, the English in this book was Oxford English, so it was quite the opposite of fun for me.
And I just don't feel like trying again right now, even though they don't seem as intimidating as then anymore.

5. Tunnels by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams
ONE. BIG. NO.
Another book from which it has been a while since I read it, but it was SOOOO BOORRIINNNGG. It was about a guy whose father went missing and he went after him, because apparantly he disapeared into some tunnels and blablabla (I'm not childish, whaaattt). I had to force myself to finish this book, because it dragged on sooo much and I will never try reading it again. NEVER. AGAIN.


Dramaaaaa! Haha, how a booknerd can dislike - to put it softly - sometimes. And how dramatic they can be about it - jeez.

My Bookmark Collection!

For today's blog post I wanted to share my bookmark collection!

I have these superfun and cute bookmarks, which I actually barely use... 

But I suppose it's a bookish thing, collecting bookmarks. I sure do love having them!

So take a look at my collection!

So this is quite a special bookmark, because it is unique in its kind. My mom made it for me a few years ago and I think it's insanely beautiful (thank you, mom <3).

The only disadvantage of the bookmark is that the stone on the top and the heart underneath it, prevent the book from closing properly. And after a while you find a blob in the pages which is rather annoying...

These two are selfmade bookmarks. 

The one the left is the one I'm currently using.

A lot of the bookmarks I got are from the bookstore in my city. 

This is one of them; it makes me long for vacation...

Valentine's Day Book Tag!

I have literally nothing with Valentine's day.
I don't think it's a special holiday or anything or a holiday at all - more a way for companies to get more money. I'm not saying this because I'm single, by the way.
But I can understand why people like it - a special day on which you have an excuse to give your valentine a little gift or to spend same extra time with him or her.
I guess that's fun.
Either way I'm going to do the Valentine's Day Book Tag created by Epic Reads!

1. First Book Crush
Ashallayn'Darkmyr Tallyn from the Iron Fey-series. I mean, he was just such a mysterious hot feary guy - how can a twelve year old who've just gotten into YA-books NOT love him?
He just had it all - he was a prince, he puts up this tough guy act but actually has vulnerable, sweet heart, he can fight, he's sexy, oh god he is sexy, with his scars and his muscles...
*ARHEM* Sorry, getting of track.
But anyway - Ash was my first book crush.

2. What book would you want to be your Valentine?
Wait, just one?
Can't I have various Valentines? Or does that count as cheating...?
Well, I suppose Wonder by R.J. Palacio would be a wonderful Valentine, since it just has this beauty to it and this heart to it; the story is just beautiful and has this beautiful happy ending - it's just beautiful (and I said beautiful three times in one sentence, hehe)!
Wonder would just be a cute and kind and sweet and lovely - and just so damned cute - Valentine!

3. Candy Hearts or Chocolate?
I'm not a big fan of candy - don't look at me like that.
But I just love chocolate... But I don't like to much of it.
You would make me way more happier with a box of Oreo's, 'cause those are little pieces of heaven *angels singing in the background*.

4. What book would you gift your true love?
I think I'd gift him The Humans by Matt Haig, because it's funny and touching and basically anyone will love it, even if you're not much of a reader. And besides at the end there are some, like, "life-tips" which could give him wise lessons or something?
It might be inspiring in some ways - it's just a beautiful story.

5. Favorite Rom-Com
Well, here's the thing - I just hate rom-com's.
Okay, maybe not hate, but I prefer not to watch them. Most of them are just soooooo cliché - ugh, blegh, ugh.
The funny thing is that I used to love them so much - and around that time I was like 7 or 8! It's like the whole child-to-adult proces went the other way around for me: I loved stupid rom-coms when I was younger and now I like fairy tales and games and magic and action and stuff like that, haha.
But my favorite rom-com....
OOH - I GOT ONE! HOW COULD I FORGET?
The Proposal, starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds! And no, I didn't watch this when I was a kid, because even though I liked them then I wasn't allowed to watch those movies... Either way - I just really really really loved this one, because it was funny and Ryan is just hot and Sandra such and amazing actress and the whole scheme was just messed up! Pretending to be engaged... Who the hell would think of that? And then eventually actually getting engaged - not cliché at all *cough* *cough*
It was just one of the rare moments in my life I enjoyed such movies. Yup.

6. Best Valentine's gift you've ever received (or want to receive)
I've never actually celebrated Valentine, although once when I was a little kid I gave my BFF a ring a made myself and she gave me one in return, which was pretty damn cute, but we're not BFF's anymore...
I guess books and food'll do - I'll be happy if I got that on Valentine's Day. Or any day actually.

7. Favorite thing about Valentine's Day (if you love it) OR favorite thing to do on Valentine's Day (if you hate it)
Like I said, I don't have anything with Valentine's Day, so I guess you could say that I hate it. And what I like to do on Valentine's Day is just to treat it as a normal day. Just doing stuff that I need to do or read a book or play videogames and just relax. Ooh, yeah, that's a nice Valentine's Day for me.

The Totally Should've Book Tag

Lacking inspiration and originality, Nadi set out to find another, the umpteenth already, nice book tag. Then she stumbled once again on Katytastic's booktube-channel and she found the Totally Should've Book Tag. Watching the video and loving the questions, she decided to do it too.

So have fun with another tag post!

1. Totally should've gotten a sequel

Ooh, this is a tough one... I mean, most times I just love the book the way it is and the way it ends; it may kill me every now and then, but it doesn't necessarily needs a sequel or anything. But I wouldn't mind to get a sequel to Wonder by R.J. Palacio, a beautiful book by the way that made my heart melt and my eyes water.

I would like to see Auggie grow up and see him experiencing all these things that other people experience, but then with his face deformity. Although I do think that the sequel wouldn't be better than the first or as heartbreaking, I'd still find it interesting to see the rest of Auggie's life and how he changes and how new people in his life see him then.

2. Totally should've had a spin off series

Well, I'm going to be very cliché for this one, but like Katy I'd like a spin off series for the Harry Potter series. Now I haven't read the series YET, but I'm half way through the first and I'm really enjoying it! I'm just sooo curious about how Harry's and Ginny's and Hermione's and Ron's children are going to experience Hogwarts with maybe a new enemy or soemthing like that. Or perhaps how Harry's parents experienced Hogwarts - that we sooo fun to read!

I NEED THIS - J K ROWLING, PLEASE WRITE A SPIN OFF SERIES FOR THE HARRY POTTER SERIES!!! I PROMISE I'LL READ ALL THE BOOKS!

4. An author who totally should write more books

MARCUS SEDGWICK, MARCUS SEDGWICK, MARCUS SEDGWICK, MARCUS SEDGWICK!!!

Or I totally should read more of his previously written books, but either way I love this author, even though I haven't read much of his books YET. But well my wallet doesn't have an endless stock of money and the bookstores don't seem to appreciate him as much as I do, because there are almost no books of him to be found. Or it might be because most of his books are from 2009 and the books they sell are ones published recently...

But I still think he should write more books. Definitely.

I love you, Marcus Sedgwick!

5. A character who totally should've ended up with someone else

For this one I'm going to go with Celaena from the Throne of Glass series. Though I've only read the first book and a part of the second book, I still can't stand the fact that Celaena broke up with Dorian. Nope, I just can't. It breaks my heart. I just can't - Nope - I can't even - Nope.

I have nothing more to say.

6. Totally should've had a movie franchise

THE CHAOS WALKING TRILOGY!!!

EVERY SINGLE BOOK SHOULD BECOME A MOVIE!

I'm still busy reading the third and last - *sniff* - sequel of the trilogy, but man I love love love these series and I would love them even more if they'd become a movie. I mean, the movie would be really action packed and I need some visualisations of my OTP Todd and Viola, because then my life will be complete.

I just think these books would be great movies.

7. Totally should've had a TV show

Actually I'm more the kind of girl who likes to have books that become movies than books that become TV shows. I have the feeling that when a book or book series become a TV show, a lot of stuff that doesn't happen in the book will be added in it and I just would find that a shame.

So no book that should've totally had a TV show!

8. Totally should've had one point of view

Well, to be honest, I haven't read many books in which I had many point of views and that those perspectives bothered me. But I do have read books in which I liked to have more point of views. Neither do I have read books that really bothered me with its single perspective.

I think that the perspectives in the books are just great the way they are, because they make things more surprising or interesting - they just fit the story.

So again, no book for this one.

9. Totally should have a cover change

I think I'd like to change the cover of my own book, Het Geheim Van Mystic Mountain, especially the font of the title.

I would like to have a bit darker blues in the back and the monster school bigger and on a mountain with four kids - the protagonists - at the front.

And I'd give the title this gothic-like font - ooh yeah, that would be cool.

10. Totally should've kept the original cover(s)

I think the covers of the Chaos Walking Trilogy, shouldn't have changed their covers. I own the older cover and I really like them because the "Noise" in the book is printed on it and that isn't there on the new ones. Those thoughts that were pressed on the covers of these books, really made me want to buy them even more. I am not exactly sure if these were the original covers, but I still like these covers better than any other cover.

11. Totally should've stopped at book one

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. I really enjoyed the first book, but the second book didn't feel appealing to read anymore. Could be because of the many books I had read in between, but still comparing to the first book - I didn't think it was really good; I stopped halfway through.
